Hey guys. I thought I'd give some information about the draft.
We will have a 28 round main draft and then a 10 round prospect draft. The draft order will be determined by a random number generator. I will be using this site: www.fftoolbox.com/draft_order_generator.cfm
The results will be emailed to everyone so you can all see it is legitimate.
A few pointers with the draft:
1. Prospects CAN be drafted in the main draft. A prospect is any skater that is signed or drafted by an NHL team. To be prospect eligible, a skater must have played less than 25 games while goalies must have played less than 20 games. The only prospects that are ineligible to be drafted will be those selected in this coming NHL draft. This is to ensure that the 1st overall prospect pick is going to be a good player.
2. It will be a snake draft (1-10, 10-1, 1-10, etc.). I'm not sure how many teams we will have yet. The prospect draft will also be a snake draft but the GM who picks last in the main draft will be given the first overall pick (10-1, 1-10, 10-1, etc.).
3. I posted on the Dobber forums about this next issue - trading during the draft. At this moment, I am going to say NO TRADING during the draft. Some of the arguments against trading was that inexperienced GM's would get ripped off and activity would be down. Everyone in this league will be experienced but some of us are more experienced with this format and who will go where, etc. I know activity will not be a problem in this league so that issue is out of the equation. I think having a no trading policy during the draft will ensure everybody is on the same footing for the beginning and the newer guys can get acclimated to the format.
4. I'd like to have a live draft possibly but it is extremely difficult to find a time that suits every person. There is plenty of time until the season and the draft will go fairly quickly even if it isn't a live draft. But we should still try. Having everyone in a chat room (there is one on this forum) can help us all get to know each other more and it'll be a fun few hours.
5. The draft will start shortly after the league is filled. There will be a 12 hour time limit per pick.
If we have strong opposition to not allowing trading, things can change. I just wanted to share my thoughts on the topic.
